Indian Document Attestation via VFS — New Jersey
Indian Document Attestation · New Jersey
Document attestation for India, handled end to end.
Powers of attorney, affidavits, sponsorship letters, commercial papers — the documents India’s consulate must attest now go through VFS Global only. You provide your details and signature; we notarize, apostille where it’s required, prepare and submit to VFS under the New York jurisdiction, and ship it back overnight. You don’t stand in any line.
First — which one do you actually need?
Apostille or consular attestation?
These get mixed up constantly, and choosing wrong wastes weeks. Both are valid ways to make a US document usable in India — the right one depends on the document.
An apostille is enough
For most US public records — a birth or marriage certificate, a diploma — an apostille from the US authority is all India needs under the Hague Convention. No consulate step. If that’s your case, start on our apostille for India page.
You need VFS attestation
For documents the Indian Consulate itself must attest — powers of attorney, affidavits, sponsorship and invitation letters, and many commercial documents — and for OCI and Indian-passport holders. Since 1 August 2025 these go through VFS Global only. That’s what this page handles.
What we attest
Documents we handle through VFS
The common ones. If yours isn’t listed, ask — part of our job is telling you whether it needs consular attestation, an apostille, or both.
A few consular services — such as life certificates for pension or NOCs for carrying mortal remains — may go directly to the consulate rather than through VFS. We confirm the correct route for your document before anything moves.
Full handling
How your attestation gets done
You hand us the document and your details. We take it from there — the only things that stay yours are the review and the signature.
Review & route
We confirm whether your document needs consular attestation, an apostille, or both — and catch anything that would get it rejected.
Notarize
We notarize the document as a New Jersey notary, with the signature and wording the consulate will accept.
Apostille if required
The consulate attests US-signed documents only after they’re apostilled by the US authority — so we get that done first where it applies.
Prepare, you sign, we submit
We complete your VFS application with the details you give us, then send it to you to review and sign. Nothing is submitted until you’ve checked it and signed off — then we submit under the New York jurisdiction and pay the consular and VFS charges on your behalf.
Track & ship back
We track it through and return the attested document by UPS or FedEx overnight, with tracking. Shipping is billed to you at cost, alongside our flat service fee.
Why applications bounce
The mistakes that get documents sent back
Every one of these is avoidable — and every one is why people redo the whole thing.
Signature doesn’t match the passport
Your signature on the document must match the one in your current passport. A mismatch is a routine rejection.
No apostille before attestation
Submit a US-signed document without the US apostille and the consulate will only give a “true copy” attestation — not the full attestation you need.
Wrong jurisdiction
You must apply in the consular jurisdiction of your residence. NJ residents apply under New York — with verifiable proof of NJ address.
One form per applicant
Each applicant needs a separate, correctly completed application and the required responsibility declaration. Missing either stalls it.
What it costs
Fees, in plain terms
Two kinds of cost: the government charges, and our service. We keep them separate so you always know what’s what.
Important: consular and VFS charges vary by document and service type, are set by those authorities, and change from time to time — we pass them through at cost and confirm the current amount on the VFS screen before paying. UPS or FedEx overnight return shipping is billed to you at cost. Our own service fee is flat and quoted before we start.
